Arising from a public meeting held in Dalgety Bay late in 2008, a general meeting was called of interested parties and a committee was elected. One of its first tasks was to agree a constitution and apply to become a registered charity.  In support of that object, 'The Friends' has the power to:

1. Raise funds through organisation of events, application to grant-making organisations and Trusts, acceptance of subscriptions, gifts and donations on such terms as shall be deemed appropriate to support projects and developments in northern Malawi, particularly of the Engcongolweni community.
2. Liaise, communicate and associate with voluntary organisations and such other organisations and bodies as are deemed necessary to further the objects of the Friends.
3. Provide relevant information to members of the Friends, associated organisations and bodies regarding all aspects of friendship links and partnerships existing with Engcongolweni.
